Easy Like Sunday Morning

awomanunbroken

Regardless of your spiritual stance, Sunday has historically been a day of rest. It's officially the first day of the week, yet we treat it like the last as it is that precious end of the weekend before we go back to what is regularly scheduled programming for many of us.

Part of my healing and growth journey has been realizing the importance of being intentional with my time. I'm all for lying in bed all day on a Sunday if that's what I need, but I know that I feel better if I follow a reset practice. I'm sharing mine with you. This can be done on whatever day is your Sunday equivalent based on your personal life. It seems to be a nearly perfect balance of rest and responsibility. Adulting is hard, and I am always looking for ways to work with it and not against it.

Try to enjoy a slow morning. If possible, sleep in a little later than you usually would on other days. I recently got these luxury cooling gel pillows and it's like being in a big comfy hotel bed. I will never go back to the five-dollar end cap bin of pillows at Target again.

Shortly after waking is a great time to jot down a quick gratitude entry in your journal or spend a moment with a devotional if that's your thing. Journals don't have to be fancy or filled with fluff. Many, like this one, are perfectly fine for a daily routine.

If you don't already have a running list of to-dos, this would be a good time to whip one up. Glance over it and decide when each thing should be completed throughout the week. Even if nothing on the list is slated for Sunday, this gives you a visual of what's to come and anchors your expectations.

Wash your sheets. This seems obvious, I know, but as someone whose lifestyle makes it possible for me to wash my sheets whenever I want, there is something

so delicious about crawling into a crisp, clean bed on a Sunday evening. Creating the perfect bed for yourself is something I believe in strongly and it took trial and error to get it right. We sleep a lot as humans and it only makes sense that the place we do that should be comfortable. After years of different sheet sets, it was this set that won my heart. With over 220k reviews and a five-star rating, they did not disappoint. Best part? They are not expensive.

Next is nature time or body movement. Or both, if you like. A light, leisurely walk is a good option. Yoga, meditation, or a swim if you have access. For those with limited mobility, you can do a breathwork routine outside in the sun, spend time in creativity by painting or drawing, or do a gentle stretching sequence. The point is to seek out the sun, the fresh air, and the peace that comes with it. Choose what works best for you.

Listen to an encouraging podcast. You can do this while doing the laundry, during nature time, or while meal prepping for the week. I am a fan of music during these activities most of the time, but I have found that a good podcast on a Sunday afternoon does something cool to my brain and helps shift me into a positive mindset.

Meal plan and prep for the week. This can be as simple as deciding on a menu only or as involved as chopping, measuring, and filling your refrigerator with ready-to-go lunches in perfectly stacked containers like these.

Take the shower. You know the one. The head-to-toe, exfoliation frenzy, deep-conditioning, thorough shaving, extra long shower. It pairs exquisitely with the freshly made bed.

For me, ending the day with a favorite beverage and a good book has always been a favorite. Whether that's a cup of hot sleepytime tea or a glass of Pacific Rim Riesling, I can't think of a more relaxing way to close out a Sunday.

What does your Sunday reset look like?
